Objet de la mission

SOS MEDITERRANEE is a civil European rescue association founded in 2015. Facing the humanitarian tragedy and the lack of adequate rescue capacity in the Mediterranean on the deadliest migratory route in the world, a group of European citizens created a maritime and humanitarian association in order to rescue persons in distress at sea, to protect and assist them, as well as to testify about the realities and many faces of migration.
Today, SOS MEDITERRANEE is a network composed of four national associations (Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland) sharing the same mandate. Search and Rescue (SAR) operations have been carried out since February 2016 in the Central Mediterranean off the Libyan coasts with the chartered ships Aquarius and Ocean Viking. To date over 35.000 people have been rescued by SOS MEDITERRANEE.

SOS MEDITERRANEE is recruiting a Logistics & Admin Intern to work on shore under the supervision of the Logistics and Admin Coordinator, working as a member of a diverse team which is committed to humanitarian and maritime search and rescue (SAR) in the central Mediterranean, the Logistics & Admin intern takes part in onshore logistics and admin of SOS MEDITERRANEE’s Search and Rescue (SAR) Operations teams, in a challenging, highly sensitive and quick evolving European environment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Logistics:

S/he will participate in supply chain:

  • Elaboration and improvement of supply strategy of SOS MEDITERRANEE.
  • Procurement of supplies for the ship and for the office: direct purchase, collecting quotations.
  • Update and follow-up of inventories (IT, NFI, food).
  • Shipping of goods in Europe according port call localization.

S/he will support the Ops department during port call:

  • Travel and accommodation of crew.
  • Prepares access list for Port Agent.
  • Book car/van rental for shuttles.

Admin & Finance:

S/he will keep track of deployment start and end dates of external post-rescue team members and journalists/photographers so that Finance can establish invoices.
S/he will request ship cash box inventory and reconcile accounting.
S/he will monthly check the Operations credit card and reconciles to bank statements.
S/he will monthly check the Operations cash box (onboard and onshore).
S/he will support the Log/Admin coordinator with financial follow-up.
S/he will be supporting in the good archive of accountancies documents for Ops department.

Profil recherché

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
– Bachelor’s degree. Preferred diploma in logistics or finance
– Some experience in logistics helpful
– Excellent organizational and time management skills
– Fluent in English, written and spoken. Preferred French fluency.
– Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
– Ability to cope with stress and work in an environment where team security is a top priority.
– Teamwork, flexibility and adaptability. Flawless detail-orientation.
– Empathic and able to adapt to the situations and willing to help out in case of a change of plan
– Committed to the vision, mission, and values of SOS MEDITERRANEE.
– Candidates must have work authorization in France.

Conditions

Terms of contract:
Internship (stage conventionné) 6 to 8 months
Starting as soon as possible
Position based in SOS MEDITERRANEE’s Operations Headquarters in Marseille, France.
